And Herve for that matter?
We were late meeting Dave and Herve at the Muir Hut because of storms in the high country. We were meant to meet them by 3pm yesturday but when we arrived at the hut at 6pm and they were gone and no note!
At first we thought they didn’t come out at all after seeing a weather forecast. But, then we heard tale of Dave at the hut looking for his friends from other hikers. The more people we talked to, it became clear that he was hiking out along the JMT. We decided to chase him even though he had at least a 2 hour and 6 mile head start on us.
Alas here we are at Florence Lake and no Dave. We think perhaps we overtook him at Muir Trail Ranch. At one point we think we were within a mile from him according to reports from the trail. Ah well, Dave you had quite a run today. We think you hiked over 20 miles.
We are bummed to have missed you and kind of though that we’d find you here at Florence Lake trying to catch has the last ferry. During the day when we realized how far this chase would take us we decided that we’d go out for a day to Mono Hot Springs (where we were married). So, we have to thank you for that and for one other thing. Our hike today set a new personal best of 34 miles! What a crazy run! Update: We found Dave’s car at Florence Lake and Dave later found us at Mono Hot Springs, woo hoo!
